Banks in Spain are to suspend evictions for the next two years of people who cannot pay their mortgages.
An estimated 350,000 families have been evicted from their homes since the property market there crashed in 2008, at the beginning of the economic crisis.
The announcement was made by AEB, the Spanish banking association.
The BBC reports a woman in northern Spain took her own life on Friday, just before she was due to be evicted from her home. She jumped from the fourth-floor as officials arrived to evict her.
Another man in the city of Granada, whose house was also due to be repossessed, reportedly suicide last month.
An organisation called Platform for Mortgage Victims has been blocking access to houses to prevent evictions.
