In a fresh development in the widening scandal surrounding the director of the CIA, David Petraeus, the Pentagon says the top commander in Afghanistan is to come under investigation.
General John Allen, who denies any wrong doing, is to be investigated over what is described as alleged inappropriate communications with one of the two women at the heart of the scandal that led to Mr Petraeus's sudden resignation.
The woman, Jill Kelley, has been described as an unpaid social liaison at the McDill airforce base in Florida, which is the headquarters of the US Central Command.
Earlier, the FBI entered the home of Paula Broadwell, the woman with whom Mr Petraeus had an affair.
