Human remains found inside crocodile

Updated at 9:13 am on 18 November 2012

Australian police have found human remains inside a crocodile at a remote waterhole where a seven-year-old girl was reported missing.

A ranger shot the three-metre saltwater crocodile near a billabong at Gumarrirnbang outstation, about 110km south-west of Maningrida and 340km east of Darwin, the ABC reports.

The girl was reported to have been taken by a crocodile while swimming with her family on Saturday.

Police say the remains have not been identified and investigations into her disappearance are continuing.

Extra officers joined the search on Saturday night, after efforts by police and volunteers failed to find the girl.
