A Powerball lottery jackpot in the United States is now a record $US550 million.
A single winner on Wednesday could receive as much as $327 million before taxes. But the BBC reports the the odds of scooping the top prize have been calculated at one in 175 million.
There has been no winner for the Powerball prize since 6 October.
Forty two states, the District of Columbia and the US Virgin Islands participate in the lottery.
