A fugitive mafia boss living in a luxury home on the island of Bali has been arrested in a joint operation by Italian police with Indonesia.
Antonino Messicati Vitale, 40, previously served 10 years in prison in the past for mafia association and was wanted on new charges of extortion.
He is believed to be head of the Sicilian clan of Villabate, which was at the centre of a bloody gang war in the 1990s.
The BBC reports police discovered that he was living in Bali after bugging the telephones of friends and relatives; they then followed a group of relatives who travelled from Italy to see him.
A warrant for his arrest was issued in April. Police say he is wanted for involvement in murder, human trafficking and arms trading.
He is now expected to be extradited to face trial in Italy.
Vitale's father Pietro, a mafia boss, was shot dead in 1988.
