It's a Wonderful Life still melts the hearts of movie critics nearly 70 years after it was released, according to a survey of Christmas films.

The survey by Rotten Tomatoes, a film review website, found that the 1946 redemption story starring Jimmy Stewart edged out the 1942 Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire musical Holiday Inn (1942) and The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) by Tim Burton.

It's a Wonderful Life was also number one in 2009, when the list was last compiled,

Stalag 17, a World War II drama released in 1953, and Miracle on 34th Street (1947) round out the top five on the Christmas list.
