Fire ban in WA

7:47 am on 23 December 2012

A total fire ban is in force on Sunday along the northern coast of Western Australia. A severe fire danger warning is also in place for the Pilbara region.

AAP reports the fire ban applies in the Shire of Exmouth about 1000km north of Perth.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services said on Sunday that open air fires are banned and hot work such as metal welding and grinding is not allowed without an exemption.

Daytime temperatures in the Shire of Ashburton in the Pilbara are expected to be in the low to mid-40s until Boxing Day, according to the Bureau of Meteorology.
