Swedish weapons reported in Myanmar

1:17 pm on 24 December 2012

The military in Myanmar is reportedly using Swedish weapons in a war against Kachin rebels.

The Kachin Independence Army claims it captured an M-3 Carl Gustaf rocket launcher and several artillery shells in October.

The European Union maintains an arms embargo against Myanmar.

Radio Australia reports that any such weapons must be coming via other countries, perhaps India, which is a major market for Swedish weapons.

A ceasefire between the government and the rebels is over.
