Perth is forecast to swelter in a heat wave until New Year's Day.
The ABC reports emperatures reached 39.6 degrees at the Mount Lawley recording station on Christmas Day, and other parts of Perth hit 40 degrees.
The Bureau of Meteorology said temperatures were expected to stay in the very high 30s and early 40s until New Year's Day. A maximum of 41 degrees is expected both days this weekend.
Some respite is expected to on New Year's Day when the maximum forecast is around 34 degrees.
