Police now patrolling River Murray

Police in South Australia are patrolling the River Murray River during the Christmas holiday period, watching for breaches of the Harbours and Navigation Act.

AAP reports they will be alert for errant jet-skiers and boaters, and conducting random breath and drug screening tests.

They will also be on the lookout for anyone who skis after dark, as well as those caught operating vessels carelessly or not using appropriate safety equipment.

Acting Superintendent Wayne Overmeyer said there is usually an increase in water-related offences during the holidays.
