The United States Senate has opened a formal investigation into the American movie Zero Dark Thirty, following criticism of its depiction of torture by the US military.
The film chronicles the efforts to capture or kill al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.
The panel will investigate whether the film-makers had inappropriate access to CIA materials.
It will also examine whether CIA staff were responsible for promoting the film's representation of torture which the senators view as irresponsible and inaccurate in its suggestion that torture can be politically beneficial, Radio New Zealand's correspondent in Washington reports.
Sony Pictures and film creators Kathryn Bigelow and Mark Bole continue to stand by the film, saying it was based on accurate and legally obtained information.
