Claim that Manus Island phone links cut

6:10 am on 10 January 2013

A Refugee Action Coalition Iin Australia says Canberra cut off all phone and internet communication from the detention centre on Manus Island for three days in an act of reprisal.

The coalition said the Department of Immigration cut the links because asylum seekers sent photos of the conditions in the camp, in Papua New Guinea. It also said phone calls are being monitored now.

The coalition said the detainees have the right to communicate with their relatives, or anyone else, without the Australian government listening in.
