Spate of bombings in Iraq

Several suicide attacks in Iraq killed at least 40 people and wounded more than 100 others on Wednesday.

The deadliest incident was in Kirkuk where a suicide bomber detonated a car bomb outside the offices of the Kurdistan Democratic Party.

A second car bomb parked on the side of a road nearby detonated shortly afterwards

Another two people were killed in a bombing in the town of Tuz Khurmatu.

Other bombings occurred in Baghdad and Baiji, Hawija and Tikrit, all north of the capital.

The funeral has been held in Fallujah of Ayfan al-Essawi, a Sunni MP who was killed by a suicide bomber at roadworks west of Baghdad the day before.

Hundreds of mourners attended the funeral on Wednesday. One person was wounded by a roadside bomb as the procession set off for the cemetery.
