Rain slows fires in Victoria

10:57 am on 27 January 2013

Overnight rain has slowed the progress of two bushfires burning in eastern Victoria.

Fires burning near Harrietville, in the Alpine region of the state, and at Heyfield in Gippsland, had both townships on alert during the week.

But cooler temperatures and rain eased the fire threat on Saturday and Sunday.

AAP reports that advice messages remain in place for the two blazes, especially near the Harrietville.
