Army helps Queensland clean-up

7:19 am on 31 January 2013

A military convoy has arrived in a flood devastated area of Queensland to help the communities there begin their flood recovery.

Six people are known to have died in the Australian state's flood disaster, after the bodies of two farm contractors were discovered in the Lockyer Valley on Wednesday.

The men, aged 25 and 34 and believed to be from Taiwan, had not been seen since the weekend flood.

While some rivers are yet to peak, a massive clean-up is underway.

Troops will help repair damaged infrastructure and clean people's homes in the Wide Bay-Burnett region, including the badly hit community of Bundaberg.

The record flood there is receding, although water continues to flow through large parts of the city and it could be days before residents are allowed back into the worst affected areas.

The ABC reports there are still communities in Queensland short of food, power and water.
