The clean-up after the floods has started in parts of Queensland and councils are being briefed on the best way to manage mud armies of volunteers.

AAP reports councils will be informed on the most appropriate way to dispose of hazardous waste and insurance needs for the volunteers,

Local Government Minister David Crisafulli said not all communities and councils would need volunteers after the floods, but those that do also needed to know how best to manage and co-ordinate their services.

"We're just trying to make it a more straightforward process," he said.

AAP reports Caltex has donated $A75,000 worth of fuel vouchers for registered volunteers who use their own vehicles in the clean-up.
