More supplies arrive in Solomon Islands

9:54 pm on 9 February 2013

More supplies have arrived in the worst affected affected areas of Solomon Islands following Wednesday's earthquake and tsunami.

At least 13 people are believed to have been killed and thousands are displaced near Lata in the Santa Cruz group after Wednesday's 8.0 magnitude quake and tsunami.

Prime Minister, Gordon Darcy Lillo travelled to the area on Saturday and received a briefing from the Temotu province disaster chairman Solomon Palusi.

He identified the areas and communities in most need since the earthquake.

Mr Palusi says the aftershocks are continuing but their severity has lessened.

The aid which arrived in Santa Cruz on Saturday on the flight with the Prime Minister, is being distributed by aid agencies in the province.
