More containers that may have a toxic substance inside them, came ashore on beaches in northern Sydney in Saturday.

A blue 20-litre container labelled as "poison" was found at Avalon Beach on Saturday. Another container was later found 300 metres north of the surf club at Palm Beach.

The ABC reports the substances inside them are yet to be tested and identified.

Superintendent Tom Cooper said five or six containers containing aluminium phosphide have been found along the coastline in recent weeks.
