Sinkhole in Bundaberg

10:34 am on 20 February 2013

A sinkhole has swallowed a two-storey building in the Queensland city of Bundaberg, which was hit by floods after ex-Oswald. There are fears more businesses could topple in.

AAP reports the hole opened on Tuesday morning

"The way it's happened is very frightening actually - to see it collapse so quickly in such a large area," said Mayor Mal Forman on Tuesday.

"But I think if you look down there, there's more area that can fall away as well."

Owner Jan Douglas said she came into work early on Tuesday to find the back half of her marina business being held up by a gate. Minutes later, it was gone.

"It's a two-storey building, so it shows you how big that sinkhole is," she told AAP.
