Argo takes Best Picture at the Oscars

The hostage drama took out the best picture award, beating its rival Lincoln.

British actor Daniel Day Lewis has won the best leading actor prize for a third time which is a record in the history of the Academy Awards.

He got Best Actor for Lincoln while Jennifer Lawrence won Best Actress for Silver Linings Playbook.

American actress Anne Hathaway has won the Academy Award for best Supporting Actress for her role in Les Miserables.

The award for Best Supporting Actor has gone to the Austrian actor Christoph Waltz for his turn as an eccentric dentist turned bounty hunter in Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained.

And the austere Austrian drama Amour, about death and aging, has won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film.

It's the second Austrian movie to win the Oscar for top foreign film since 2007.

The film Life Of Pi, an adaptation of Yann Martel's fantasy adventure novel. took the prizes for Best Cinematography and Best Visual Effects as well as the Best Director for Ang Lee.

Meanwhile, Sir Peter Jackson's The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey has missed out on the three awards it was nominated for.
