A magnitude 6.7-earthquake has been recorded off Papua New Guinea's north coast.
The United States Geological Survey said it was 150 kilometres east of the city of Lae at a depth of 87 kilometres.
Lae, PNG's second largest city, is the capita of Morobe Province.
No damage has been reported so far and seismologists say it was unlikely to have caused any major damage.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said there was no Pacific-wide tsunami threat.
The USGS says a magnitude 5.5 quake struck 135 kilometres southwest of Kokopo, the East Britain provincial capital, in the night.
Dulcie Logo, from the Kokopo Village Resort, says the earthquake was very short and sharp and didn't do any damage.
