Musharraf in court

9:45 pm on 20 April 2013

The former president of Pakistan, Pervez Musharraf, has appeared before an anti-terrorism court in the capital Islamabad.

Police want him held over the allegations that he ordered the arrest of senior judges when he was president.

Mr Musharraf surrendered to police on Friday, the day after the High Court in Pakistan ordered his arrest.

He has described the allegations against him as politically motivated.

Pakistani television showed pictures of Mr Musharraf entering the court in the capital, Islamabad, amid tight security.

His lawyer says the judge will rule on whether Mr Musharraf could remain remanded in police custody or would have to be transferred to jail ahead of his next appearance, which is expected to take place in the next few days.
