A judge in the Federal Court in Sydney has awarded the family of the convicted drug smuggler Schapelle Corby $A54,000 in damages for the publication of family photos without consent.

The Corby family had sued publisher Allen and Unwin over a 2011 book titled Sins of the Father by Eamonn Duff.

They said five photos, including shots of Corby as a child on Santa's knee, were family pictures published without permission.

The family had sought damages of $A300,000, AAP reports.

Justice Robert Buchanan ruled on Wednesday that in addition to paying the damages and agreeing not to republish the photographs, Allen and Unwin would have to destroy all remaining copies of the book.

Corby was jailed for smuggling marijuana into Indonesia in 2004.
