UN wants moratorium on drones

9:27 pm on 3 May 2013

The United Nations Human Rights Council has called for a moratorium on the production, transfer and use of drones worldwide because it considers robotic weapons violate international law.

A draft report said the use of lethal autonomous robotics, or drones, has raised far reaching concerns about the protection of life during war and peace.

The report questioned whether drones can be programmed to comply with requirements under international humanitarian law and international human rights law, AFP reports.
