The Walt Disney company has decided to pull out of Bangladesh and several other countries following fatal accidents in factories that produced its branded merchandise.

Since a garment factory building in Bangladesh collapsed on 24 April, killing 550 people, Western companies with ties to the country have been scrambling to address public concerns about working conditions.

Disney company officials say the decision to pull out of Bangladesh, Pakistan, Belarus, Ecuador and Venezuela was made in March, months after a fire at a factory in Bangladesh that killed 111 people.

The president of Disney consumer products says it is the most responsible way to manage challenges associated with the company's supply chain.
