The budget failed to give the Labor government a bounce, according to a Galaxy poll in Australia.

AAP reports about 48% of voters said the budget had left them worse off. However, cuts to the baby bonus, received strong support, with 64% agreeing it was a good idea.

Labor's support rose one percentage point and the Coalition's dropped the same amount, but on a two-party preferred basis, it was unchanged with Labor at 46% and the coalition on 54%.

The poll surveyed 1006 voters over the phone and online on 15 and 16 May.
