Fierce fighting in Syrian border town

Both sides in the Syrian conflict say government forces and Hizbollah have launched a fierce campaign to seize more rebel territory in the border town of Qusair.

Rebels fighting against President Bashar al-Assad say additional tanks and artillery have been deployed around opposition territory in Qusair, on the Syrian side of the border with Lebanon.

The rebels are largely surrounded in Qusair, a town of 30,000 that has become a strategic battleground.

President Assad's forces want to secure a route between the capital Damascus and the Mediterranean coast, effectively dividing rebel territories in the north and south.

Manar TV, Hizbollah's media wing, said the Syrian army have recaptured Dabaa airport, which was seized by rebels several weeks ago.

Hizbollah said the advance has been slow and difficult.

'The rebels have mined everything, the streets, the houses. Even the refrigerators are mined," said a source.
