UK churches being destroyed by bat droppings

A British MP has warned that churches and their artefacts are being destroyed by bat faeces and urine.

Tony Baldry said medieval wall paintings in a church in his constituency had survived the ravages of the dissolution after King Henry VIII left the Catholic church - but were now threatened by the bats.

He asked for permission to destroy the animals' breeding places, which are currently protected by European Union legislation.
