Law to label fresh food dishes as 'home-made' on menu

11:40 am on 28 June 2013

French MPs have voted to force restaurants label freshly cooked dishes as ''home-made'' on their menus.

The measure is aimed at halting a spread of ready-made meals that are not prepared with fresh ingredients on the premises.

The BBC reports restaurants marking dishes as "fait maison" fraudulently will be fined.

Supporters of the bill said it will help to keep the quality of French cuisine high.

The Senate still has to vote on the measure.
