Third dead whale found off Queensland coast

A third dead killer whale has been found on Fraser Island, off the coast of southern Queensland.

The whale was discovered late on Friday in a creek north of Kingfisher Bay by Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service rangers.

AAP reports two whales, believed to be a mother and calf, died on Wednesday when their pod became stranded on a sandbar.

It's believed the whale discovered on Friday had been dead for a couple of days before being discovered.

AAP reports rangers were still hopeful late on Friday night that the remainder of the pod will move out to sea. The nine whales have been slowly moving north.
