Three women imprisoned in a house in the America state of Ohio for about a decade have released a YouTube video thanking the public for their support.

Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight were freed in May allegedly being abducted between 2002 and 2004 at the ages of 14, 16 and 20.

Former school bus driver Ariel Castro faces 329 counts of rape, kidnapping and other charges.

Michelle Knight said she may have been through hell and back but is strong enough to walk through hell with a smile on her face and her head held high.

"I will not let the situation define who I am. I will define the situation," she said.

Ms Knight says she does not want to be consumed by hatred.

Amanda Berry, now 27, said she is getting stronger each day.

She said she wants everyone to know how happy she is to be home and wants to thank everyone who has helped her and her family.

Gina DeJesus also offered thanks to those who donated to a fund set up to help them rebuild their lives.

The video was posted on YouTube by a public relations firm.
