An American musician has become the first person to paddle-board from Cuba, to Florida - a trip of almost 180km. He took 38 hours.

Guitarist Ben Friberg, 35, was accompanied by a support boat providing navigational advice and nutrition.

He left Cuba on Thursday and stood for most of the trip from Port Hemingway, Cuba, to Key West, Florida.

Friberg wore long socks, a long-sleeved white shirt and a long-peaked cap to shield him from the sun as he paddled the 4.2 metre board.

Last year, he broke the record for the longest distance stand-up paddleboard journey in 24 hours, traveling 383km on the Yukon River in Canada.
