Explosion at Chinese fireworks factory

4:52 pm on 4 November 2013

An explosion at a fireworks factory in the southern Chinese city of Cenxi has killed 11 people and injured 17.

State media say the cause has yet to be established but two businessmen have been arrested in connection with the blast.

China's fireworks industry suffers from lax controls and there have been a number of deadly incidents in recent years.

In February, a truck carrying fireworks exploded on a highway, killing at least five people and causing part of the road to collapse.

And in 2010, 38 people were killed in two separate explosions.
