More asylum seekers intercepted off Christmas Island

11:37 am on 14 August 2010

Another boat carrying 17 asylum seekers and four crew has been intercepted off Christmas Island by the Australian Navy.

HMAS Wollongong stopped the boat on Friday night.

The ABC reports those aboard will be taken to the island for processing.

The Opposition says the latest arrival shows one of the key differences of the election campaign.

Immigration spokesman Scott Morrison says the Coalition's plan to set up an immigration processing centre on Nauru would stop boats arriving.

Earlier in the week, a boat believed to be carrying 57 asylum seekers and two crew, was intercepted north-est of Christmas Island.
