Mystery woman returns to Australia from Ireland

A young Australian woman found wandering the streets of Dublin is now back in Sydney after a international appeal to determine her identity.

AAP reports Samantha Azzopardi, 25, is believed to have arrived at Sydney International Airport early on Saturday and is now in the care of her family.

She was found in a distressed state on a street in Dublin almost a month ago and was initially suspected of being a teenage victim of human trafficking.

An international appeal for information identified her. Ms Azzopardi, originally from Sydney, was known to Australian police, has used false identities and has been found guilty of deception.

AAP reports the High Court in Ireland found Ms Azzopardi could not be detained under the Mental Health Act. However, the court heard that she had a condition that made her vulnerable.

Irish police confirmed Ms Azzopardi would be returned to her "native Australia".

Australian Federal Police are liaising with Irish agencies on the case.
