An Indian couple have been found guilty of murdering their teenage daughter and a Nepalese servant.

Aarushi Talwar, 14, was found dead at home in May 2008 with her throat slit and a fatal head injury.

Suspicion initially fell on the servant, Hemraj, until his bludgeoned body was found on the roof the next day.

Prosecutors argued Rajesh Talwar and his wife Nupur Talwar, killed the pair after finding them in bed. Their trial began in June last year.

Judge Shyam Lal read the verdict in a crowded court room in the city of Ghaziabad, just outside the capital, Delhi.

The couple, both dentists, blame intruders, and say the police mishandled the investigation. They say they will appeal against their conviction.

The BBC reports the case generated huge interest in India with every twist and turn in the case receiving wall-to-wall coverage.
