The Italian government is to spend $US250,000 on a new platform for Michelangelo's famous Statue of David, to protect it from earthquakes.
The statue is in Florence, which has recorded more than 250 small quakes in the past three days.
A study earlier this year warned there was a risk of David collapsing if microfractures in his legs expanded.
The BBC reports the plan is to build a new plinth that will protect the statue from new tremors.
Italy's culture minister said in a statement that a masterpiece like David must not be left to any risk and these recent quakes make the project even more urgent.
