A woman has died and another is in an induced coma in hospital after going to an electronic music festival in Sydney, where almost 70 others have been charged with drug offences.

Police said a 25-year-old was taken from the Stereosonic music festival at Sydney Olympic Park to hospital where she later died. The exact circumstances of her death are not yet known.

A 22-year-old was in a critical condition in hospital.

A spokesperson for event organisers Totem Onelove Group expressed its sympathy to the family of the woman who died and said the matter was now one for police and the coroner.

Drugs charges

Another 69 festival goers were charged with the supply and possession of drugs while 23 others were issued with cannabis cautions.

Police said the number of arrests was alarming and that they were disappointed with the behaviour of many of the 50,000 people who were at the event.

They said they had mounted a major operation in a bid to ensure the festival was a safe and secure event.

Two men were found earlier in the week allegedly trying to drill holes in buildings at the site to hide drugs, before fences were installed and the park went into "lockdown".
