Quake hits off Mexico's Pacific coast

A powerful earthquake measuring magnitude 6.4 has struck off southern Mexico's Pacific coast.

The quake struck at a depth of 117km and was centered 32km west-northwest of Pijijiapan in Chiapas state about 7.50pm local time, the US Geological Survey reports.

There were no immediate reports of damage according to emergency services in the area.
