Currency change

6:09 am on 31 July 2008

The government in Zimbabwe is removing 10 zeros from its currency, in an attempt to cope with hyperinflation.

Ten billion Zimbabwean dollars will now be reduced to Z$1.

The governor of the reserve bank says computer systems and calculators can no longer cope with the number of zeros.

The government will also encourage the use of coins which lost value due to inflation, now running at a 2.2 million percent.
