A 10-year-old boy has been transported to hospital in a serious condition after he was shot in the shoulder during an attempted armed robbery south of Brisbane.

Emergency services were called to a home in Browns Plains at about 8:00pm local time on Tuesday to reports of an assault and attempted robbery.

An altercation followed during which the firearm was discharged, injuring the boy and his 31-year-old father.

The young boy was injured in the shoulder and his father was injured in his abdomen, reported to be a gunshot graze.

The father of the injured boy is also in hospital, but neither of the injuries were life threatening.

A police dog was also injured while tracking the offenders, sustaining a torn leg muscle after being bit by a dog at the home.
