Ike moves out to sea again

8:06 am on 9 September 2008

Hurricane Ike has moved out over the ocean in the Caribbean, south of Cuba, where it could strengthen over the warm waters.

It weakened over Cuba earlier but not before blowing off roofs, toppling trees and flattening sugar cane fields.

Waves slammed into sea walls and surged as high as nearby five-storey apartment buildings in the country's east.

Earlier, Ike killed 61 people in Haiti and reportedly damaged 80% of houses on the main Turks and Caicos islands.
