Senate panel approves US-India nuclear deal

A Senate panel in the United States voted on Tuesday to approve the US-India civil nuclear cooperation agreement without a proposal to give Congress more influence over future deals.

The Senate Foreign Relations Committee voted 19-2 in favor of the deal, which would end a three-decade ban on US nuclear trade with India.

It is is viewed by President George Bush as the cornerstone of a new strategic partnership with New Delhi.
