Police have arrested two terrorist suspects on board a KLM plane at Cologne airport in Germany.

The men are suspected of wanting to take part in Islamist attacks and suicide notes had been found, a police spokesman told German television.

A Somali, 23, and a Somali-born German, 24, were detained on Friday after a month-long surveillance operation and were suspected of planning attacks.

The Dutch-owned KLM jet had been bound for Amsterdam and was stormed by police at 6.55am local time.

The flight, KL1804, continued its journey just over an hour later and has since landed in Amsterdam.

No one from KLM was immediately available for comment.
