North Korean leader Kim Jong-il is reported to have made his first public appearance since claims surfaced last month that he may have suffered a stroke.

The country's official media reports that he attended a university soccer match in Pyongyang and congratulated the winners afterwards.

Kim Jong-il, 66, failed to attend an anniversary parade in the capital last month, prompting speculation about his health.

South Korean officials suggested he had undergone brain surgery but was recovering well.
