Qantas super jumbo to touch down in NZ

3:51 pm on 9 October 2008

New Zealanders will get their first glimpse of Qantas' new super jumbo as Qantas flies its flagship A380 aircraft into Auckland on Thursday night.

The first Qantas A380, named Nancy-Bird Walton in honour of Australia's aviation pioneer, will touch down at Auckland International Airport about 11pm.

Local dignitaries, Qantas customers and media representatives will take a "joy flight" for more than an hour on Friday before the A380 departs for Sydney at 3pm.

Qantas' manager for New Zealand Grant Lilly said the airline was excited to be the first to bring the A380 to New Zealand.

"New Zealand customers will be able to experience travelling on the A380 through connections in Sydney and Melbourne to Los Angeles from later this month, and from early next year to London."
