The military says Abu Qaswarah of Morocco, was killed in an air strike in Mosul on 5 October.
He had ties to the founder of al-Qaeda in Iraq, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, who was killed in a US air strike in June 2006, and had been in contact with the group in Pakistan.
