A UN Security Council delegation will visit Afghanistan later this month.

Diplomats said on Tuesday that ambassadors or senior envoys from the 15 council members will be in Afghanistan from 22 - 28 November. The mission will be led by Italian Ambassador Giulio Terzi.

About 4000 people have been killed this year in Afghanistan, as the Taliban step up their campaign to overthrow the government.

There are some 65,000 foreign troops in Afghanistan, including about 13,000 US troops.
