North Korea said on Wednesday that Kim Jong-il has inspected two military sites, and issued pictures of the visit.
The images were the most the North has issued of the leader in months and show him far more active than in recent other shots.
The official KCNA news agency did not say when the visits were made.
Intelligence reports quoted by Japan's prime minister last month claimed Kim had suffered a stroke.
