Petrol bombs at karaoke bar in Sydney

1:58 pm on 5 December 2008

A karaoke bar was firebombed in Sydney on Thursday night.

Chief Inspector Stuart Bell says about eight men entered the Karaoke World venue on Elizabeth Street just before 9pm (AEDT).

The ABC reports a petrol bomb was thrown into one of the rooms and the building was evacuated. About 40 people were there at the time.

Chief Inspector Bell says all patrons will be contacted for statements.

Police are also looking at CCTV footage to try and identify the offenders, who ran away after the attack.

The Fire Brigade says crews found the remains of three or four petrol bombs inside.

Police say it is possible that more than one petrol bomb was used.
